CAIRO – 24 October 2017: Surprisingly, Iker Casillas, Porto`s goalkeeper, has disappeared from the lineup of Porto in the last three matches.

Porto`s coach, Sergio Conceiçao, relegated him to the bench in the Cup match against Lusitano for the young goalkeeper José Sá. It looked like a simple rotation system from the coach, but it gave way to an authentic “Casillas case”.

The veteran goalkeeper of Porto has not featured in the last three games, instead watching from the bench the Champions League game against Leipzig and the Portuguese League against Paços de Ferreira.

His representative, Carlos Cutropia, denied that the reason for the substitution was a verbal confrontation with his coach.

El País newspaper has revealed that the real reason for his absence is that Porto wants to sell Casillas.

The club was intervened in June 2017 by the UEFA for breaching the financial fair play the last two seasons. So, Jorge Pinto da Costa, Porto`s president, was ordered from the owners of the club to sell Casillas in the next transfer market.

It is worth mentioning that Casillas is the highest paid player in the squad of Porto, with €5 million ($5.9 million) per year.

Casillas, 36 years old, did not concede a single goal in the first 530 minutes played with Porto this season. It was the best streak in his career and in the history of Porto.
