CAIRO – 24 October 2017: The Egyptian national hockey team defeated Kenya 4-1 on Monday in the African Championship being held in Ismailia, Egypt.

The Egyptian team also defeated Nigeria 13-1 on Sunday in its first match in the championship.

The men and women’s African Hockey Championship started on Sunday with several teams competing including Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Zambia.

The board of directors of the African Hockey Federation, headed by Hany Hamouda, decided to postpone the African Championship for three days, starting on October 22 instead of October 19.

The tournament had been postponed due to Zimbabwe and Namibia pulling out of the competition.

The tournament’s system consists of only one round, as the first and second positions play a final match to decide the champion.

Egypt is sitting on the top of the group with six points, ahead of South Africa and Ghana each with three points.

The Egyptian team is set to play against South Africa on Thursday to decide the winner who would play in the Hockey World Cup in India.
