CAIRO – 18 October 2017: Egypt received three offers to face Uruguay, Argentina and France in friendly games to prepare for the World Cup.

“We are living a different stage now; we received many offers to face Argentina, Uruguay and France,” the president of Egypt national team sponsor Presentation, Mohamed Kamel, said on Wednesday.

Egypt faced the three teams before in friendly games, losing to Argentina 2-0 in 2008 and to Uruguay with the same result in 2006, while they lost 5-0 to France in 2003.

Kamel added, “We haven’t decided whether we will play our last friendly game in Europe or in Russia. We are now among the biggest teams in the world.”

Egypt qualified to the 2018 World Cup in Russia after beating Congo 2-1 on October 8, ending 28 years of absence from participating in the competition, as Egypt last played in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Egypt played in Group E in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, alongside Congo, Ghana and Uganda.
