CAIRO – 18 October 2017: Real Madrid President Florentino Perez spoke on Wednesday about Barcelona's departure from the Spanish League if the Catalans managed to win their independence battle with Spain.

“To tell you the truth, that is what I have seen over the past few games. I cannot imagine a Spain without Catalonia and La Liga without Barcelona,” Perez told press on Wednesday.

Rumors linked Barcelona with leaving the Spanish League alongside all the Catalan clubs if independence happened.

Perez spoke about Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s future with the Spanish national team, saying, "I think that the best players should be in the national team and that they should be surrounded by a good atmosphere."

Spanish fans asked Spanish national team manager Julen Lopetegui to exclude Pique from the squad, as the player is backing Catalonia's independence referendum.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are the most successful teams in Spain, and they have a big rivalry with each other.
