CAIRO – 06 October 2017: Africa has five places reserved at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and this round may decide the destiny of three places for Nigeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

Nigeria will qualify to the 2018 World Cup if it wins its match against Zambia at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Nigeria on Saturday. Nigeria is set to secure its sixth appearance in World Cup since it first qualified in 1994.

Head coach Gernot Rohr will take much of the credit for the progress the team has made since he took charge in July 2016.

"It's an important game, and we have it in our hands to win. If we have our players fit, we will be at the World Cup,” he stated.

Tunisia is set to meet Guinea, and back in Tunisia, Libya will host the Democratic Republic of Congo for security reasons. Tunisia hopes to win against Guinea and waits for a gift from Libya to breakdown DR Congo.

The “Carthage Eagles” travel with advantage over DR Congo, having taken four points in back-to-back matches between the countries last month.

Tunisia qualified to the World Cup four times – in 1978, 1998, 2002 and 2006. It hopes to return to the biggest tournament in the world after an absence for 12 years.

Egypt can end 28 years in the World Cup wilderness with a home victory over Congo Brazzaville if Uganda fails to collect maximum points against visiting Ghana.

The last of two appearances at the tournament was in 1934 and 1990, with the record seven-time African champions suffering several heart-breaking failures since.
