CAIRO – 27 September 2017: The former player of Real Sociedad, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, Xabi Alonso, announced on Instagram that he has decided to continue his professional career as a coach.

Alonso, who had hung up his boots at the end of last season, uploaded a film on his social account in which he made the announcement, "after 17 years in football, I have already considered the next step in my career. I have made the decision to be a coach. You will soon discover more."

In his time as an active footballer, Alonso had not ruled out at any time to continue in the world of football as a coach once his career as a player ended. After four months of retirement, he has made the decision to give the step towards the benches.

The 35-year-old has won the Champions League twice with Liverpool and Real Madrid in 2005 and 2014 respectively. He also won the World Cup with Spain in 2010 and the European Championship in 2008 and 2012.
