24 August 2017: Egypt’s national volleyball team defeated Poland 4-1 on Wednesday night in their last group stage match in the FIVB U-23 World Cup. Egypt ranks third with 7 points, behind Brazil and Cuba.

“It was an important game. This victory brought us to life. It is so hard to get eleminated from the first round in a competition played in Cairo,” Egypt manager Marcos Miranda stated after the game.

Egypt dominated the game against a tough opponent, in front of Egyptian fans who supported the team from the first moment.

Egypt won the first three sets 15-7, 15-13 and 23-30, respectively, while Poland won the fourth set 15-13. However, the Egyptian team won the fifth set 17-15 to win the game 4-1.

Egypt faces China on Thursday to decide the places from five to eight, while Brazil faces Russia and Cuba faces Argentina in the semi-finals.

Egypt played in Group A alongside Cuba, Mexico, Poland, Japan and Brazil.

Cairo is hosting the tournament from August 18-25.
