CAIRO – 19 August 2017: A picture of Everton’s new signing, Gylfi Sigurdsson, wearing Everton training shirts when he was a child has emerged after Everton signed the player.

The mystery was solved after Sigurdsson’s head teacher at School in Iceland tweeted that the player had a trial in Everton when he was young.

“Some years ago I sent Gylfi Sigurdsson on trial at Everton. He’s finally joining them today!” Sigurdsson’s head teacher, Leifar Gardarsson tweeted.

Sigurdsson trained with Everton in 2001 when he was just 11. He was also a ball boy at one of Everton’s home games against West Ham.

“The only thing I really remember is throwing the ball to Paolo Di Canio,” The player told the Guardian.

Sigurdsson, 27 years, added “but it was a fantastic experience, especially for someone young who watches the Premier League back home in Iceland and then you luckily have the chance to be a ball boy at one of the games and be allowed to train with the team for a few days. That was fantastic.

Sigurdsson signed a five year contract with Everton for a club record fee of $ 58 million.
