CAIRO – 19 August 2017: Egypt defeated Guinea 109-78 on Saturday in their second group stage game at Women’s AfroBasket held in Mali.

Menatalla Mohamed was the best Egyptian player in the game with 20 points scored, seven rebounds and three steals.

Egypt won their opening game in the tournament against DR Congo 99-72 on Friday; Egypt’s next match will be against Nigeria on Sunday.

Egypt plays in Group B alongside the reigning champions Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, DR Congo and Mozambique while Group A includes Central African Republic, Tunisia, Angola, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and the host nation Mali.

Egyptian coach Amr Ashour’s squad for the competition consist of Meral Asraf Abdelgawad, Rana Abd Elfattah, Nour Aly, Mennatalla Awad, Reem Osama, Radwa Sherif, Mai Helwa, Manar Ihab, Hala Mostafa, Soraia Deghady, Asrar Maged and Rannem El-Gedawy.

Ashour chose Meral Asraf Abdelgawad, Rana Abd Elfattah, Asrar Bakr and Radwa Sherif from the U 19 team who participated in the U 19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Italy last month to support the first team squad.

Egypt won the gold medal in the first two editions in 1966 and 1968, while Senegal won the most titles; winning the gold medal 11 times.

Mali is hosting the competition from August 18 to 27.
