Egyptians flourish in Saudi Arabia

CAIRO –13 August 2017: Egyptian professional footballers in Saudi Arabia took the spotlight this week after a strong start in the Saudi Arabian Football League.

The following Egyptian players play in the Saudi Arabia League: Mohamed Abdel Shafy in Al-Ahli Saudi FC, Mahmoud Abdel Moneim ‘Kahraba’ in Al-Ittihad Club and Mostafa Fathi and Essam el-Hadary in Al-Taawoun FC.

Al-Taawoun FC defeated Al-Fateh SC 4-1. Mostafa Fathi opened the scoring sheet after only 20 minutes from the start of the whistle. Hadry conceded only one goal from Al-Fateh. Fathi and Hadry participated in all of the 90 minutes of the game.

Al-Ittihad lost 3-1 to Al-Batin FC. The game saw many opportunities missed by the players of Al-Ittihad. The most important of them was Kahraba, who scored Ittihad’s only goal to reduce the score in the 88th minute before Al-Batin FC scored their third goal in the game on the 89th minute.

Lastly, Al-Ahli Saudi FC lost 2-1 to Ettifaq FC. Serhiy Rebrov, Ahli Jeda’s manager, placed the Egyptian left back Mohamed Abdel Shafy on the bench.

On a similar note, Moustafa Fathi, Essam el-Hadry, Mohamed Abdel Shafy, Kahraba were selected on August 10 to join the Egyptian International Team ahead of Egypt’s game against Uganda on August 31 in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
