CAIRO - 8 August 2017: “Barcelona is a great club and is bigger than any player, even Neymar,” Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu said during a meeting with Barcelona fan groups.

“Neymar could have been clearer before, and the way things were done was not right. There are ways to do things; no one can be bigger than the club, and we have reported the move to the UEFA," Bartomeu told Barcelona fan groups.

Bartomeu always had doubts about Neymar’s departure, as he said, “We thought there was a chance that Neymar could go, and for that reason we raised his buy-out clause."

Bartomeu added, “The €222 million ($261M) we will spend sensibly, strictly and wisely. It will be used to improve the club, and with this, it means that we are in a great position to sign players.”

Bartomeu insulted Paris Saint Germain, saying, “We are a club with 118 years of history, great players, and over 140,000 members. It is ours and the members’, and not owned by a sheikh or an oligarch."

Paris Saint Germain, owned by Qatari businessman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, signed a five-year contract with Neymar after paying €222 million as a buy-out clause to Barcelona.
