CAIRO – 4 August 2017 – Esperance Sportive advanced to the Arab Club Championship final after defeating Fath Union Sport 2-1 in Thursday’s semifinal match at Alexandria stadium.

The Tunisian Esperance Sportive managed to steal a hard 2-1 victory from the Moroccan Fath Union Sport. Hamza Al Samomy scored the first goal of the game, and only goal for the Moroccan side, at minute 27 of the match. The one point lead wouldn’t last long as Esperance’s Khalil Shamam scored an equalizer in the first two minutes of the second half.

Fath Union Sport’s situation got worse after Mahdi Betashy took a second yellow card at minute 67 of the match, his exit of the game showed the team’s struggle to finish strong before going into extra time.

A second yellow card would be given to Fath Union Sport, Mohamed Fouzir, causing another player’s exit in minute 94 of the match. Esperance then took the lead, for the first time of the game, after Taha Yassin scored from a penalty kick at minute 95 of the game. Yassin would quickly leave the pitch, only a minute later, because of getting a yellow card.

With this result Esperance Sportive will face Al-Faisaly at the Arab Club Championship final on Sunday, August 6 at Borg Al Arab stadium.
