CAIRO – 21 July 2017: Egypt is to set to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Sharm el Sheikh, the CAF announced Thursday.

“The competition will be held in December 2018 or January 2019, we will decide the exact date after discussions with the Sports ministry and South Sinai government,” Egyptian Football Federation member Khaled Latif told Egypt Today.

Latif talked about the competition’s importance, saying “eight to twelve African teams will participate in the competition, the first and the second in the competition will qualify to the 2019 Beach soccer World Cup.”

“The Committee decided to grant the 2018 edition to Egypt, the only country which expressed interest in the organization at the end of the deadline for the call for applications,” a CAF statement said.
Egypt’s last participation in the competition was in 2016 in Nigeria when the Egyptian team won the Bronze Medal.

It will be the first time in the history for Egypt to host such a tournament.
