CAIRO – 21 July 2017: Egypt lost to Sweden 35-27 on Friday in the Under 19 (U19) Handball World Cup in Algeria, continuing their losing streak in the tournament.

The Egyptian team failed to stop Sweden’s attack and conceded many goals to lose their third match in the tournament and decrease their chances to qualify for the second round.

Egypt lost their opening match to France 36-30 and lost the second match to Denmark 26-20.

Egypt has to win their remaining matches in the group to have a chance to qualify to the second round. Egypt faces the previously qualified team Slovenia on Saturday and Qatar on Monday.

The first four teams in the group will qualify to the second round, and the other two teams will play in the President’s Cup to decide positions 17 to 24.

Egypt won the 1993 U20 Handball World Cup held in Egypt – the greatest Arab achievement in competition history. The team included Wael Abdel Ati, Egypt’s current U20 coach. Egypt also won the Bronze Medal in 1999 and fourth place in 2009 and 2015.

Algeria hosts the U20 Handball World Cup from 18 to 30 July for the first time in their history.
