CAIRO, March 31 (MENA) - The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said Tuesday that the tourism sector recorded its highest ever level of revenues in Egypt's history, with a ground-breaking 13 billion dollars in 2019, compared to 12.5 billion dollars in 2010 and 11.6 billion dollars in 2018.

According to CBE's statistics, a copy of which MENA obtained, the total tourism revenues increased to reach 13.03 billion dollars in 2019, against 7.8 billion dollars in 2017, 2.5 billion dollars in 2016 and 6.1 billion dollars in 2015.

The number of tourists who visited Egypt in 2019 was estimated at 13.1 million, compared to 11.3 million in 2018, 8.3 million in 2017, 7.7 million in 2016 and 3.8 million in 2015.

The number of tourists in 2019 is less than that in 2010, which was estimated at 14.7 million tourists, according to the CBE's statistics.

Tourism experts attributed the improvement in the tourism sector in 2019 to the implementation of a comprehensive structural reform program for the tourism sector in 2018.
