Four days of the El Gouna International Squash Open have gone by and the competition is getting more intense by the day. World number one Ali Farag and Raneem El Welily, officially marked the opening of round 2 of the tournament on Friday by winning both their matches against the Australian Cameron Pilley and Nicole David, the 9 year squash champion.

Egyptian Champions

On Saturday night, world no. 2 Mohamed El Shorbagy and Nour El Sheribini were victorious over their counterparts Hong Kong’s Max Lee and El Sherbini’s fellow Egyptian Yathreb Adel at the iconic glass court at Abu Tig Marina.

Men’s Matches

Round 2 witness a big win for 5 other Egyptian male squash players against their rivals including Tarek Momen, Karim Abdel Gawad, Omar Mosaad, Marwan ElShorbagy, and Fares Desouky. Once again, Egyptians are leading round 2 and are qualifying to round 3 alongside the world no. 3 German player Simon Rosner and New Zealand’s Paul Coll.

Women Matches

On the other hand, women’s draw side pulled off thrilling encounters and a number of vicious wins for World no. 1 Raneem El Welily, TinnieGilis, Mariam Metwally who will be facing New Zealand’s Joelle King in the 3rd round, the top English player Laura Massaro, and Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb.

What to expect in Round 3

The third round of the main draw of El Gouna Squash Open is expected to be more eventful. It is hosting World number 3 Nour El Tayeb, France’s Camille Serme, Nadine Shahin who beat world no. 10 Alison Waters, world no. 6 Sarah-Jane Perry, and world no. 7 NouranGohar. As for male players, world no. 6 Miguel Rodriguez is competing against the Egyptian Fares Dessouky in round 3, while Omar Mosaad is facing his fellow Egyptian Karim AbdelGawad. Round 3 also features Marwan El Shorbagy, Nicholas Mueller, Tarek Momen, SauravGhosal, Adrian Waller, and Joel Makin.

Additionally, top players will meet again in round 3, where Raneem El Welily will play against theBelgian TinneGilis and Ali Farag is up against Diego Elias. On the other hand, Mohamed El Shorbagy will play against the Mexican player Cesar Salazar while El Sherbini is up against the rising champion Nadine Shahin.
