CAIRO – 5 June 2017: Abeer Sinder, the first black Saudi Arabian beauty vlogger breaks social taboos in her country simply by posting her video blogs online. Sinder found solace from repressive beauty standards by filming a video to show off her beauty, challenging Saudi Arabia’s perception of self-image and the stigma of dark skin.

To Sinder, the flood of compliments she receives are not flattering. Being “beautiful and black” urged Sinder to make a stance against racial discrimination in the Arab world and show off the beauty of her dark skin. Sinder’s vlog is meant to convey a clear, encouraging message to dark skinned women worldwide to feel beautiful and be proud of their “black beauty.”

Vlogs, or video blogs, are typically a short video expressing one’s thoughts, experiences or ideas and have become popular in recent years. Vlogs can help content creators reach a wider audience.
