Mute-deaf students’ works speak loudly at Zamalek Art Festival

CAIRO - 17 February 2019: For the first time, mute-deaf students participated in the third Zamalek Art Festival held at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the upscale district of Zamalek, Cairo.



Participating students, who are also members at the Egyptian Association for the Mute-Deaf and Sign Language Translators, exhibited their hand-made products of real leather handbags, crochet clothes, potteries, embroidered porcelain plates, and silver accessories.



Egyptian celebrities Soaad Hosni and Om Kalthoum and other Egyptian folklore paintings were decoupaged on porcelain and wooden plates and trays. Some leather handbags have pharaonic drawings on them.




“It is the first time for us to exhibit at the faculty. Some of the participants already had handicrafts before joining the faculty. But the exhibition shows decoupaged works for the first time,” Doaa Talaat, instructor at the Faculty of Specific Education, told Egypt Today on Saturday.



“The students learned this art within three weeks and managed to produce many decoupaged works,” added Talaat, who learned sign language to teach students decoupage art.



The third Zamalek Arts Festival was held at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art Education and Music and Faculty of Musical Education.
