CAIRO - 28 January 2018: As a reflection of the current uproar against sexual harassment and in solidarity with the movements #metoo and Time’s up, several main events and red carpets have come to the decision of uniting and expressing themselves through one color or theme. In this year’s Grammy’s, the white rose has been chosen as the common theme. The white rose will stand as a symbol for peace, resilience, and hope.

The theme has been decided after various industry insiders including promoter Karen Rait and industry marketer Meg Harkins sat at a dinner to find a way where it was guaranteed that the movements were represented. It was then broadcasted through an email by Atlantic Records Chair Julie Greenwald, according to Billboard.
Several artists such as Rita Ora, James Cordon and Halsey have already confirmed that they in fact will be wearing white roses to the Grammy’s.

This won’t be the first time where a major event is dominated by one color in favor of the #metoo movement.

The 75th Golden Globes

have broken the internet with celebrities flooding the red carpet with the

With all this happening, what are these movements all about? The #metoo movement is a protest against sexual harassment and violence, originally established by Tarana Burke a decade ago. It only started to make that much of an impact once the actress, Alyssa Milano, tweeted encouraging women to speak out and unite against violence.

Similarly, the Time’s Up movement was founded in response to the #metoo movement to stand with abused women, especially in the entertainment field. Its website has an open letter that has gathered as many as 400 signatures from women in the American and British entertainment industry that all stand to tackle the issue.
