Carrie Frances Fisher, known most notably for portraying Princess Leia in the Star Wars film saga, was born on this day in 1956 and suddenly passed away at the age of 60 on December 27, 2016 due to cardiac arrest.

The Los Angeles native is the daughter of the Hollywood royalty Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.

The multi-talented Fisher was mainly known for her recurring role as Princess Leia in the cult favorite Star Wars. Fisher reprised her role for the upcoming movie “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” that is set to be released at the end of this year.

Also an author, Fisher has written several novels and screenplays such as the autobiographical one-woman play and non-fiction book “Wishful Drinking,” which was later adapted as a television movie. She earned a BAFTA Award nomination for the screenplay she wrote for “Postcards From The Edge.”
