Martin is an American comedian, actor, and writer who first gained notice as a writer. He was born on September 14, 1945. In 1967, he was a writer for the television show “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”. He started appearing on TV in "The Steve Allen Show" in 1969 and "The Virginia Graham Show", in 1970.

In the mid-1970s, he became a very popular comedian. One of his memorable performances is his role as Navin R. Johnson the Cat Juggler in the comedy film "The Jerk" (1979). He was also noticed for his character in the "Father of the Bride" in 1991.
