CAIRO – 22 July 2017: Pirelli’s 2018 Calendar uses the fantasy world of the story “Alice in Wonderland” to showcase an all-black cast of actors, musicians and models from all over the world.

The calendar shoot was run by British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful, who is the first black man to run a mainstream women’s fashion magazine, and shot by the genius Vogue photographer Tim Walker on a set designed by Shona Heath.

This is not the first time the calendar was shot with a full black cast as it was done before in 1987, using a teenage Naomi Campbell as one of the models.

Developed by the Italian tire company decades ago, the Pirelli calendar has always showcased female beauty. However, in more recent years it has began to redefine itself by creating images that provide social commentary.

The calendar is not sold to the public, but instead gifted to celebrities and insiders in various industries.

Taking a shift from the 2017 calendar celebration of powerful women that starred a mostly white cast of celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman, the 2018 product will dazzle everyone with the beauty of the following cast:

- South Sudanese-Australian model Duckie Thot as Alice
- Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong’o as the Dormouse.
