CAIRO – 22 June 2017: Adel El-Masry, chairman of the Egyptian Publishers Association, announced that Egyptian publishers are cutting ties with Qatar and the Qatari book fair.

He added that the publishers’ decision comes in the spirit of union with the Egyptian state’s decision to cut ties with Qatar.

El-Masry said that the association would not make any decisions that oppose the country’s national policy. He said that they would not change their minds unless the Egyptian state rekindles ties with Qatar.

Earlier this month, the Egyptian General Book Organization also announced that it may not partake in the Doha International Book Fair due to the Egyptian government’s decision.

The Doha International Book Fair is scheduled to be held in October and November this year. Last year, Arabic novels were the fair’s top best sellers.
