CAIRO – 9 June 2017: The Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction (FDCTA), belonging to the Ministry of Social Solidity, observed 595 scenes of smoking and using drugs in TV series aired during the first week in Ramadan.

The results came with a total of 13 hours and 30 minutes, of which contains nine hours and 30 minutes of smoking scenes, and four hours and 21 minutes of drug using scenes. This represents 5 percent of the total time frame of smoking scenes, and 2.3 percent of the total time frame of drug using scenes. Compared to last Ramadan, the scenes of smoking and using drugs have stepped back big time this year.

The observatory created a black list of series including these types of scenes this year, with “Black Horse,” “Al-Herbaya,” and “Ramadan Kareem” taking the lead.

In context, FDCTA announced a competition for addiction awareness movies, with the cooperation of Mentor Arabia.

FDCTA signed a corporate protocol with Mentor Arabia to execute awareness campaigns and cultural activities in nurseries, schools, universities, and institutes.
