CAIRO - 11 April 2019: Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem is set to inaugurate Cairo’s Floating Theater on April 11 at 7 p.m. to resume work after 3 years of hiatus.

All the rehabilitation and construction works of the theater have been completed.

The inauguration of the theater will take place in the presence of Head of Cultural Production Affairs Khaled Galal, Head of the Theater Art House Ismail Mokhtar, Director of the Comedy Theater Ihab Fahmy and a large crowd of artists, critics and enthusiasts.

Abdel Dayem stressed the importance of the role of theatrical arts in building societies, rationalizing the conscience and combating obscurantism and extremism, pointing out that the Floating Theater has been one of the citadels of Egyptian creativity throughout history.

The minister of culture also stated that youth should use the theatre as a platform to display their artistic creativity and combat dark forces.

For his part, Mukhtar affirmed that the theater’s sound and light systems were updated according to the requirements of the guidelines of civil protection, adding that the launching ceremony will start in the outdoor arena with a musical performance by the Brass Band, which includes a distinguished group of students from the Academy of Arts.

It is noteworthy that the Floating Theater was allocated for both the Comedy Theater and the Youth Theater. The minister of culture decided in December 2018 to name the Floating Theater after late director El-Sayed Rady
