CAIRO – 3 January 2019: Veteran novelist Abdel Wahab al-Aswany passed away on Jan. 3 after a long struggle with illness. The veteran writer died at the age of 85, after a long enriching literary career.

The funeral will be held in Al-Doa Mosque near Heliopolis Hospital at 3 p.m. on Jan. 3.

It is worth noting that the General Authority for Cultural Palaces has recently released the writer’s latest novel “Hemdan’s Empire”.

Aswany was born in 1934, and was one of the most prominent writers during the 1960’s. His first novel was titled “Salma el-Aswaniya” (Salma from Aswan) written in the year 1970.

“Habit el-Asefa", “Al-Lesan al-Mor” (The bitter tongue), “Ibtesama Ghair Mafhoma” (A Misunderstood smile), “Al-Naml al-Abyad” (white ant) were his most popular writings.
