CAIRO – 13 December 2018: Veteran actor Yehia el-Fakharny finalized the cast that is set to perform with him “King Lear”. The play was performed by the veteran actor for the first time in 2011.

The new cast will include Rania Farid Shawki, Riham Abdel Ghafour, Noha Abdeen and Mohamed Farag. Two more spots are expected to be filled in the upcoming period.

Rania Farid Shawki is a replacement for veteran actress Sawsan Badr who performed the role of King Leir’s eldest daughter in 2011's play.

The 2011 cast included Sawsan Badr, Ahmed Salama, Riham Abdel Ghafour, Ashraf Abdel Ghafour, Salwa Ali, Marwa Abdek Moneim and Rushdi el-Shami. The play achieved great success when it was first released.

"King Lear" is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. It depicts the gradual descent into madness of the king after he disposes of his kingdom by giving bequests to two of his three daughters egged on by their continual flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all.

Derived from the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king, the play has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, with the title role coveted by many of the world's most accomplished actors.
