CAIRO – 22 November 2018: The Egyptian archaeological mission affiliated with Ain Shams University investigated the discovery of two limestone blocks north of Ramses II's statue at the RA temple in Matariya.

The mission works in “Arab el-Hesn” in Matariya under the chairmanship of Mamdouh al-Damati.

Damati explained that the limestone blocks were engraved with an ancient text concerning King Ramses II's personal architect, Amenant, one of the most famous architects in King Ramses II's era, along with Amenant’s father, engineer Bakenkhansu, who supervised the construction of the Luxor temple.

Damati further added that Amenant supervised the construction of Ramses II's statue. A limestone wall with an entrance and a mud-brick floor were also uncovered.

The archaeological mission is set to resume work in the same area in April 2019.
