CAIRO – 13 September 2018: The Egyptian band, Noon, presented "Taa' Sakena" play (The Dormant Feminine), which impressed the audience of Al-Sawari Theater Festival for Youth, according to Head of the External Cultural Relations Sector at the Ministry of Culture, Heba Youssef.

Youssef said that Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem agreed on Noon’s participation in Al-Sawari Theater Festival for Youth, held in Manama, Bahrain, from Sept.1 to 10.

She added that the play was attended by employees of the Egyptian Embassy in Bahrain.

Directed by Nada Sabet, "Taa' Sakena" is inspired by the stories of 12 women, who are caregivers to mentally and physically ill children and who frequently accompany the children to workshops held at the children’s clinic at the Abassia Mental Health Hospital.

These women came together, created the play and gave it to three actresses, who used a very natural monologue acting style to tell stories about discrimination, racism, shaming and elimination practiced against women who are sometimes deprived from telling their stories by society.

In this year’s edition, Al-Sawari Theater Festival for Youth presented 10 plays from different countries, including Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Syria/Germany, Georgia, Russia and Armenia. It also held a conference and two workshops; one workshop highlighted theatre networks and partnerships, while the other focused on dramaturgy and playwriting.

Created in 1984 by theater director Abdallah al-Saadawi, the festival aims to give youth an opportunity to express themselves and their vision of life. The festival is held every two years.
