CAIRO – 31 May 2018: As there are many artistic and cultural events to go to during the upcoming weekend, Egypt Today provides a guide to what Egypt’s culture scene offers during the second week of Ramadan.
Dina al-Wedidi concert
Egyptian singer Dina al-Wedidi will perform at Cairo Opera House’s Open Air Theater on Thursday at 9:30 p.m.
Inspired by her heritage, Wedidi was first introduced to oriental music after studying oriental languages at Cairo University. Soon after, she joined El Warsha Theater Troupe, where she learned more about music before journeying into a solo career.
Throughout her journey, Wedidi collaborated and worked with various artists, such as Kamilya Jubran, Fathy Salama and Gilberto Gil. She is currently working with The Nile Project, a musical ensemble that revives the different cultures of the Nile Basin countries.
Needless to say, Wedidi performed at many different venues in the past, both in Egypt and abroad, including Al-Azhar Park, Cairo Opera House, Misr Opera House, D-CAF Festival and Islington Assembly Hall, amongst many others.
Ya leil Ya Ein Performance
The stage at French Institut in Mounira will put on “Ya leil Ya Ein” performance by El-Warsha Troupe on Thursday at 9 p.m.
Founded in 1987, El-Warsha Troup is the first independent troupe touring the region to touch on various social and political issues.
Al-Mawlawiya Al-Masriya troupe
Al-Mawlawiya Al-Masriya troupe, led by Sufi chanter Amer Al-Toni in a repertoire of Sufi songs and dances, will perform a concert at Cairo Opera House on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
“Mazzika X El Sat7”
“Mazzika X El Sat7” musical night will host talented jazz musician Noha Fekry on Friday at Darb 1718’s roof, aka El Sat7, at 9:30 p.m.
