Cairo – 11 May 2017: The Korean Cultural Center launches Korean Film Festival 2017 that will run between May 14-17 at Cairo’s El Hanager Cinema Center located at Cairo Opera House.

The free-entry festival is sponsored by the Korean Foundation and will feature a seminar that will discuss the history of the South Korean film industry. The seminar is targeted for film critics and audiences who are invited to participate in the seminar’s discussion.

Thriller/ Drama film The Thieves will be screening in the festival’s opening on May 14. The film, released in 2012, revolves around a cat burglar and his gang who collaborate to steal a $20 million diamond from a Chinese gangster’s mistress. Directed by Choi Dong-hoon, The Thieves won the Blue Dragon Film Award and Technical Award among others.

The second film screening will showcase sport/ drama film No Breathing that was released in 2013 and revolves around the world’s competitive swimming platform. Directed by Jo Yong-seon, the film has won the Baeksang Arts Award for Most Popular Actress in Film.

The Plan Man, a romantic/comedy film released 2014, will be featured in the festival’s third film screening. Directed by Si-Heup Seong, the movie revolves around an anal retentive man who escapes from his routine life that involves planning every detail of his life.

The final film screening in the festival will feature Welcome to Dongmakgo, a drama/comedy film that was released 2005. The movie is based on the original theater play named Welcome to Dongmakgo by filmmaker Jang Jin and has won the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best Supporting Actor among others.

All movies are expected to screen at 6 p.m.
