CAIRO – 22 April 2018: The International Festival for Drums and Traditional Arts will continue to entertain its fans on Sunday after a huge turnout on its second day Saturday. The shows of the second day of the festival were held at Al Moez Street in Al-Hussein district at 5 p.m. or 8 p.m.

Many countries in the world participate in the festival in its sixth edition, including Egypt, Nigeria, Sudan, Estonia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, India, Pakistan, China, Thailand, Maldives, Algeria, Tunisia and many others. The participating countries in the second day performed on stage and showed different styles of drumming.

Hundreds watched the shows, which began at 5 p.m. at Al-Moez Street in Al-Hussein district of Cairo. They cheered when the bands walked in or out the stage, especially if they were Arab. During the performances, the audience danced and took pictures with the dancers and drummers.

“The crowd and the cheering are unbelievable. I am very happy to be welcomed by the Egyptian people and to see such an amazing crowd,” member of the Algerian group told Egypt Today before heading to the stage.

The Saudi Arabian group leader said “Egyptians are like our siblings and they put a smile on the faces of the people. To be welcomed by such people is overwhelming.”

He added this is the fourth time the kingdom has participated in the Festival of Drums in Egypt, and that it also took part in festivals in Spain, France China and Germany.

The festival began on Friday at Beir Youssef Theater at Cairo’s Saladin Citadel and will continue till April 27. The festival will be held in different places across the country. The schedule is available on the website and social media accounts of the Cultural Development Fund.
