CAIRO – 20 April 2018: MAD Solutions has acquired the rights to distribute the upcoming Tunisian Film “Weldi” across the Arab world, directed by Mohamed Ben Attia.

It has also been announced that the 71st Cannes Film Festival will be where the film is premiering, under the Director's Fortnight section as the closing film. Ben Attia had previously directed the acclaimed 2016 film "Hedi", which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival and won two awards; Best Debut and Best Actor Honors. "Hedi" was the story of a young man in post-revolution Tunisia, with big dreams for his own life but a mother that wants something else for him. Arranged to be married, he one day meets a young woman named Rim, opening his life to further possibilities. Hedi" starred Majd Mastoura, Rym Ben Messaoud, Sabah Bouzouita, Omnia Ben Ghali and more.

For his second film, Ben Attia has opted to tell a far more serious story. The central character is Riadh, a man who lives for only two things; his family and his job as a forklift operator. Soon about to retire, Riadh and his wife begin to notice that their only son, Sami has been suffering from severe headaches, on the brink of him preparing to enter high school. Just as it seems that Sami is finally getting better, he one day vanishes and Riadh learns a horrific truth; his son has joined ISIS. The film stars the likes of Mohamed Dhrif, Zakaria Ben Ayed, Taylan Mintas and Tarik Copti.

Born in 1976 in Tunis, Ben Attia studied in France at the University of Valenciennes, after graduating from Tunis's Institut de Hautes Etudes Commerciales in 1998. Originally studying audiovisual communication, he started off directing five short films before debuting with his first feature film Hedi.
