CAIRO – 1 March 2018: The 2014 action sci-fi film “Snowpiercer” will screen at Zawya Cinema on March 12, 2018 and again on March 18, 2018.

“Snowpiercer” is a joint production between South Korea and the Czech Republic, and is directed by Joon-ho Bong. Starring the likes of Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Ed Harris, the film is set in the future of 2031, where a climate change experiment goes horrifically wrong and brings on a new Ice Age; all of mankind is gone, save for the few who boarded an endless self-powered train called ‘the Snowpiercer'.

On the train a class-system emerges; the rich 1 percent lives in the front of the train, leaving the poor to squalor in misery at the very back. Their leader, Cutis (Evans), then devises a plan to equal out the wealth by breaking into the rich quarter of the train, bringing on a revolution against their oppressors. However, Curtis and his team find themselves getting into more than they could have imagined once they must confront the train's security systems, alongside secrets from their past.

“Snowpiercer is derived from a French Graphic Novel called “Le Transperceneige”, published in 1982 and created by Benjamin Legrand, Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette. An English translation was released in 2014 by Titan Comics, and spans three volumes; “The Escape”, “The Explorers” and “Terminus”.

A Television series directly based on the film is in production according to Variety, to be produced by TNT and Tomorrow Studios.
