Sotheby’s auctions an Egyptian rare 19th century album

CAIRO- 23 April 2017: Sotheby’s auction house in London is holding an auction selling an old album of drawings and tracings of Egyptian subjects and antiques on May 9. The estimated price of the album ranges from £3000 to 4000 GBP.

The album includes 135 watercolors and pencil drawings of Egypt. In this album, Lloyd, the painter, also sketches some ancient Egyptian monuments he saw in his own extensive excavations between1839 and 1843.

George Lloyd (1815-1843) was an amateur archaeologist, botanist and traveler. He was also the vice president of the Literary Society of Egypt, established in Cairo.

Sotheby’s is a British multinational corporation specialized in brokerage of fine and decorative art, jewelry, and collectibles. It is among the oldest auction houses in the world.
