Huda Shaarawy’s historical palace collapses

CAIRO – 7 January 2018: A number of citizens in Minya governorate witnessed the collapse of iconic Egyptian activist and feminist Huda Shaarawy’s historical palace few days ago.

Based on its historical and architectural importance, many news agencies claimed that the building is listed as a historical building. Many citizens have also confirmed that the sign hung on the entrance attributed the property to "The Governorate".
Ministry of Antiquities released a press statement to refute the claims regarding the palace. Mohamed Abdel Latif, the head of Coptic and Islamic Antiquities Department, explained that in 2009, a study was presented to the department to list the palace as a historical building.

After a series of studies and discussions, Coptic and Islamic Antiquities committee agreed to not list the palace as a historical building.

So, the palace is not listed on the Coptic and Islamic Antiquities Historical Buildings list, according to the Ministry of Antiquities Statement
