CAIRO – 27 December 2017: Sheikh Imam tribute band “El Awela Belady” will be performing some of the unique revolutionary songs accompanied with a personal tarot reading for 2018 at “3elbet Alwan” on Thursday.

The Egyptian folklore music band has been established upon shared passion towards the late renowned revolutionary folklore singer Sheikh Imam.

Established in 2012, the band produces heritage songs in aims to raise awareness concerning societal and political issues resonating from Sheikh Imam’s sarcasm. El Awela Belady uses eastern classic music instruments in their performances, according to the band’s official page.

With a strong belief that art has a powerful ability in delivering diverse messages, the band is executing the strong messages of Sheikh Imam and completing his path in efforts to maintain his legacy, according to a statement issued by El Sawy Culture Wheel.

El Awela Belady has recently performed in El Sawy Culture Wheel during December 1 where they sang covers for Sheikh Imam music sung by the political singer Sheikh Imam, commemorating the memory of the late political activist/ poet Ahmed Fouad Negmز

The band works with a specific kind of Middle Eastern orchestra called “takht” (bed), which uses traditional musical instruments in four main melodic sections: the oud, the ney (a kind of flute), the qanun (a string instrument), and the kaman (the European violin). There is also a main percussion instrument used.

Political musician Sheikh Imam is an Egyptian musician known for composing sarcastic poems written by the late Egyptian poet Ahmed Fouad Negm who was called “El Fagoumy”.
