Contemporary artists deliver life forms at Safarkhan Gallery

CAIRO – 13 December 2017: "A Date with Pioneers" contemporary art exhibition will be taking place at SAFARKHAN Art Gallery from January 3 – February 2.The exhibition will display the Egyptian contemporary art pioneers Salah Abdel Kerim and Kamal Khalifa’s art work, portraying the artistic concepts they have constructed.

Egyptian artists, Salah Abdel Kerim and Kamal Khalifa, are well known for introducing the world of contemporary art to the Egyptian artistic scene in the mid-90s, among other Egyptian pioneers.

Salah Abdel Kerim has constructed his artistic life on surrealism, a remarkable artistic type of contemporary art; then he roamed the world, developing his artistic capabilities and getting rewarded for his artistic creations.

Among the many prizes Abdel Kerim received is the first prize for sculpture at the Biennale of Alexandria in 1959. In 1961, Rene Huyghe included his sculpture "Cry of the Beast" in his book "Art and Man" together with the work of the great Picasso and Muller under the title of "The energy of Form."

Unlike other Egyptian pioneers, Kamal Khalifa studied at the faculty of plastic arts. Khalifa has won the first award of Cairo Salon in 1964 as well as other awards from Mokhtar’s Salon and the Biennale of Alexandria. During his artistic life, khalifa has displayed his art work at the Museum of Modern Art, Ekhnatoun Gallery in 1964 and Alexandria Atelier; in addition, several exhibitions displayed his work after his departure.

"Melodies of conflicts" is another contemporary art exhibition held at the SAFARKHAN Art Gallery, where artist Ahmed Farid is having his second consignment of paintings on display from November 29 to December 29.
