CAIRO – 6 December 2017: Ministry of Antiquities received today 28 historic coins from Cairo Airport authorities after successfully thwarting an attempt to smuggle them, according to an official press statement released by the Ministry of Antiquities.

The coins date back to the Ottoman Dynasty period (1299-1922) and Muhammad Ali Pasha’s dynasty’s reign period (1805 – 1952).

The head of Antiquities Department at Cairo Airport explained that the coins will be displayed at the Museum of Islamic Art and Manial Palace Museum.


Recently, the Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Police managed to thwart the theft of artifacts
in different regions in Egypt such as Assiut.
