CAIRO – 3 December 2017: Famed English actor Sir Patrick Stewart has been named the recipient of the 14th Dubai International Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, to be handed on Friday, December 8 during an “In Conversation” event at the Madinat Souk Theater.

Stewart will host a Q&A session with fans, describing his life and career and elaborating on the six decades he’s been working as an actor. Acclaimed both in the theater and cinema, Stewart is best known for his roles as Captain Picard in the 1987 “Star Trek: The Next Generation” TV series and as Professor Xavier in the Marvel superhero “X-Men” film series.

Yet this serious actor has a lighter side as well, willing to lend his voice to animated movies such as the “Ice Age” franchise and, more recently, even voicing the poop Emoji in Sony’s “The Emoji Movie”, which was released earlier this year.

Stewart proudly boasts various award nominations, including three Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy awards. Stewart will be achieving the award alongside Egyptian writer Wahid Hamed.

Abdulhamid Juma, chairman of DIFF, said in a statement on the official site, “Our goal at DIFF has always been to promote great cinema and recognize incredible talent. This year we are truly humbled to present our Lifetime Achievement Award to Sir Patrick Stewart, whose career and contribution to cinema has made a lasting impact on the industry landscape for generations. It is our absolute pleasure to honor his incredible achievements at the festival and to welcome him to the Madinat Jumeirah for an unforgettable in-conversation event with fans.”

The 14th Dubai International Film Festival begins on December 6 and runs until December 12.
