CAIRO – 30 November 2017: Writer-Director Philippe Van Leeuw’s intense 2017 French/Belgian/ Lebanese drama "In Syria" (Insyriated) will screen on the final day of the 39th Cairo International Film Festival, November 30.

The film is set in a small crowded apartment in Damascus, where Oum Yazan (Hiam Abbass) along with her father-in-law Mustafa (Mohsen Abbas), maid Delhani (Juliette Navis) and newlywed couple Halima (Diamand Abou Abboud), Selim (Moustapha al-Kar) and their baby live. Tragedy strikes when a sniper shoots Selim and bombs rain down outside, trapping everyone inside the apartment. Yazan finds herself forced to make difficult decisions in order to protect her family.

Premiering on February 11, 2017 at the Berlin International Film Festival, the film won the festival’s Label Europa Cinemas and Panorama Audience Award.
