CAIRO – 29 November 2017: In honor of Egyptian iconic singer and actress Shadia, Egypt Today lists her top songs dedicated to the homeland, mothers, love, and children.

“Aa’la Esh El Hob” [In Love’s Nest]

“Aa’la Esh El Hob” is one of Shadia’s most celebrated songs. It was introduced in her film “El Zawga El 13” [Wife Number 13] in 1962.Carrying happy and romantic tunes, it was composed by Mounir Mourad and written by Morsi Gamil Aziz.



“Ya Salam Ala Hobi Wi Hobak” [Our Love is Exceptional]

It is one of the immortal duets in the history of the Egyptian cinema, mainly because it was sung by two of the best Egyptian singers: Shadia and Farid Al Atrash. The song satirically described fake love relationships.Performed in “Enta Habiby” [You are My Lover] in 1957, it was composed by Farid Al Atrash and written by Fathy Qoura.

“Haga Ghareba” [Strange Feeling]

Featuring Arabic music nightingale, Abdel Halim Hafez, today, the song remains a favorite for couples.Extracted from “Maabodet El Gamaher” [Idol of the Masses] in 1967; it was composed by Mounir Mourad and written by Hussein El Said.



“Omy” [My Mother]

Through her bell-like voice, Shadia reflected sincere love and appreciation towards mothers everywhere.It was composed by Gamal Salama and written by Abdel Rehim Mansour.



“Sid El Habayeb” [My Love]

Expressing emotional motherhood, Shadia presented a song for children through her film “Al Maraa El Maghola” [The Unknown Woman] in 1962.It was composed by Mounir Mourad and written by Morsi Gamil Aziz.



“Wallah Ya Zaman” [Ah, Time]

Mourning life’s cruelty, Shadia introduced the deeply painful song “Walah Ya Zaman”, in her film “Nahn La Nazraa El Shook” [We Do Not Plant Thistles] in 1970. It was composed by Baligh Hamdi and written by Abdel Wahab Mohamed.



“Khalas Mesafer?” [Are You Travelling?]

Carrying deep grief and sorrowful sounds, “Khalas Mesafer” is one of the greatest songs sung by Shadia. It was composed by Baligh Hamdi and written by Mohamed Hamza.

“Abarna El Hazima” [We Crossed the Defeat]

Praising the Egyptian army’s victory in 1973, Shadia introduced a song to praise the army. It was composed by Baligh Hamdi and written by Abdel Rehim Mansour.



“Masr El Yom Fy Eid” [Today is Egypt’s Fest]

After Sinai’s Liberation, Shadia released “Masr El Yom Fy Eid” as a celebration for the return of Sinai. It was introduced for the first time on Sinai Liberation Day, April 25, 1982.The song was composed by Gamal Salama.



“Watani Habibi” [My Country, My Beloved]

Shadia was one of the selected singers who participated in “Watany Habibi” in 1960. Stressing Arab countries’ unity, it was composed by Mohamed Abdel Wahab and written by Ahmed Shafiq Kamel.



“Khad Be Eady” [Took my Hands]

It was in 1986 when Shadia sang “Khad Be Eady”, the last song she ever sang. It carried a religious and spiritual mood in 1986.It was composed Abdel Moneim Barody and written by Aliaa El Gaar.
