Theatrical performance 'Al-Etr' to stage at El-Taliaa Theater

CAIRO – 29 November 2017: The first play performed in sign language, "Al- Etr,” will stage El-Taliaa Theater starting December 6.

The play is written and directed by Mohamed Allam; eight members of the crew are deaf or hearing impaired. In addition to sign language, the play employs spoken dialogue.

“Al-Etr” is a satirical commentary on life as seen by a deaf person, shedding light on the challenges deaf people encounter.

According to the Ministry of Culture, it is the first production of its kind in Egypt; “Al-Etr” won a prize from the Theater House in 2016.

The cast of “Al-Etr” also participated in the first film starring hearing impaired people in Egypt. Entitled “Khateeb Meraty” [My Wife’s Fiancée], the film is directed by the talented Ahmed Afify.
