CAIRO – 21 November 2017: Moroccan documentary "House in the Fields" will screen at the

39th Cairo International Film Festival

, which runs from November 21 to 30.

Moroccan director Tala Hadid brings an intimate look at the lives of two sisters in a remote village in the High Atlas Mountains, which is not even connected by roads to the rest of Morocco.

It follows 16-year-old Khadija, and explores her daily life in the village as she carries out chores, yet also dreams of becoming a lawyer. Her older sister Fatima is set to be married, and the two bond over the little time they have left as Fatima confronts an uncertain future.

Tradition and progress collide in this little portrait of life in a village that is only now catching up with the modern world.

"House in the Fields" was released on September 16, 2017 and has won the Camden International Film Festival’s John Marshall Award for Best Film, the Milan African Film Festival's Best Film Award and the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Fiction Non Fiction Award.

Director Tala Hadid’s previous works include "Your Dark Hair Ihsan" (2005), which won the Student Academy Award, and "The Narrow Frame of Midnight" (2014). Born in 1974, London, Hadid’s films typically explore cultural and social aspects of the Arab world, such as immigration, politics, tradition and cultural identity.

The film will screen as part of the Cairo International Film Festival’s AFAC Competition that is led by a jury consisting of Tunisian actress Rym Ben Messaoud, Jordanian director Mahmoud al-Massad, and Ahmad al-Morsy.
