CAIRO – 13 November – 2017: The 14th Dubai International Film Festival management chose veteran Egyptian director Magdy Ahmed Aly to head the “Muhr Emirati” competition.

“Muhr Emirati” contains long and short feature films. “Muhr Emirati” is expected to honor prominent Emirati and Arab cinematic figures. The festival chose Aly after the participation of his latest successful movie, “Mawlana,” in later year edition. Mawlana was well received by the festival, the audience and the cinema critics.

Aly’s latest movie is “Mawlana” (The Preacher); which was adapted from a novel by renowned journalist Ibrahim Eissa. The story revolves around an influential religious preacher turned TV celebrity whose credibility is shaken when he gets close to politicians and security agencies.

The movie stars Amr Saad, Dorra Zarrouk and Ahmed Magdy and was written by Ibrahim Eissa and produced by Naguib Sawiris. The film was awarded Best Film at Luxor African Film Festival, and Amr Saad was awarded Best Actor. Saad was also crowned Best Actor at Tetouan Film Festival. “Mawlana” was chosen to compete in the Golden Globe awards, which will take place next January in Los Angeles.
