CAIRO – 6 November 2017: Acclaimed Egyptian film “Sheikh Jackson” will screen on Monday at the Carthage International Film Festival.

Producer Mohamed Hefzy is the sole cast member that will attend the movie’s screening. “Sheikh Jackson” screened for the first time in all Egyptian cinemas on Wednesday, October 4. The film managed to achieve revenues amounting to LE 450,000 ($25,000) on its first day, and by the second day it had acquired LE 900,000; amassing LE 1,350,000 in its first two days of screening.

“Sheikh Jackson” stars Ahmed al-Fishawy and revolves around an aspiring Imam’s reaction to the death of The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The central character loves Jackson’s music and imitates the pop star’s performances. His strong relationship with Salafism reflects the contradictions in his life.
The 28th edition of the Carthage International Film Festival kicked off on November 4 and will run until November 12. This year's edition is headed by cinema producer Naguib Ayad.

The 28th edition of Carthage International Film Festival will focus on several factors, the most important of which is the development and promotion of Arab and African films through the promotion of competitions. This year’s edition will also focus on the restoration of the official competition for documentaries, doubling the financial awards, and highlighting innovative cinematic experiences.

The festival will focus intensely on Asian and Latin American cinema, which are considered globally influential. The Carthage International Film Festival management has chosen “Ketaba ala Thalg” (Writing on Snow) to be the opening film of the 28th edition.

Three Egyptian movies will participate in the 28th edition of the festival. The participating Egyptian movies are “Sheikh Jackson,” “Akhdar Yabes” (Withered Green), and “Balad Meen” (Whose Country).
