CAIRO – 6 November 2017: A theater workshop will be held at Dawar in downtown tackling Brazilian activist-practitioner Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed on November 17 and November 18.

The two-day workshop will be exploring the highlights of the performance’s actors, Image Theater and Forum Theater, according to the event’s official Facebook page.

Participants will be shown how notions such as power, oppression, active spectatorship, passive audience, and empowered action are all incorporated into theatrical works.

Boal was a firm believer that all human beings are natural actors and are able to observe their behavior at all times, thus granting them the opportunity to explore their true talent at any time.

Augustor Boal was a renowned theater director and the founder of Theater of the Oppressed that sought to promote radical popular education movements. He is known for operating as a city councilor in Rio de Janeiro in which he created legislative theater.
