CAIRO – 5 November 2017: Alwan Masrya Egyptian theater group is set to stage Nassibian Theater from 2-9 November with a short comic performance dubbed Sa’a Ela Rob’ (Three Quarters of an Hour) .

Theater is not only the stage that presents dramatic and comic performances, it also seeks to be a crowd pleaser. It is the mirror that reflects everyday life with all its pros and cons.

Comprising of three main scenes, the comic performance Sa’a Ela Rob’ tackles main issues and problems in the aftermath of historic incidents, which greatly influenced the Egyptian society. The said scenes depict three main big incidents Egypt has witnessed over the last years; the Egyptian revolution in 2011, locally known as January 25, the ousting of the former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, and June 30 Revolution.

Alwan Masrya cast was formed in 2013 by the director and founder George Musa. The group Alwan Masrya has performed many plays namely: Pantomime, Qahwa Mazboota (Well Done Coffee), Sakteen Leeh (Why do you Stay Silent?), and Al-Safqa (The Deal) for the pioneer of Arabic novel Egyptian writer Tawfeeq el-Hakim. Musa improvised workshop tends to present performances for the political theater that tackle critical issues.

Characterized by its satirical tone, the play showed some comic situations presented by a group of Egyptian young actors as an indirect means to spot and strongly criticize issues such as bureaucracy or red tape, prevailed corruption, politicized mass media, deteriorating education, and regressive economic conditions.

Located in the vicinity of Ramses square, Studio Nassibian Theater was one of the most important film studios in 1940. The studio originally included a film-processing laboratory and an editing unit. By the mid-1980s, it had produced 145 films and become the first real competitor to the most famous Studio Misr.
