CAIRO – 28 October 2017: The National Committee for the Protection and Renovation of Cairo’s Heritage has commenced in the development of El Borsa Triangle on Saturday, which is expected to be turned into a culture hub within four months.

Construction has already begun, including enhancing the overall landscape and renovating streets, such as El Sharfeen Street and El Fadel Street. This district consists of several banks, including the Central Bank of Egypt, and several heritage buildings.

The well-known cultural hotel Cosmopolitan is among the buildings that are expected to be developed as part of the plan.

The development will include constructing guide signs leading to buildings that have been a major part of Egyptian history, such as Maspero and the Stock Exchange building, among others.

Developing El Borsa Triangle comes under the full project entitled “The Arts District in Downtown”, which will also include an area dedicated for the gathering of artists in different fields, according to a released statement by Cairo governorate.

The area will also operate as a platform, not only for artists’ gatherings, but also a platform to display artworks, crafted products, art galleries and antique shops.

Established in 2016, the National Committee for the Protection and Renovation of Cairo’s Heritage is comprised of several members, such as the Cairo governorate, advisor of the head of Urban Development, head of the Central National of Civilization, CEO of the New Administrative Capital, head of the New Urban Communities Authority, and experts in running administrative buildings, as well as head of the Banks Union.
