CAIRO – 21 October 2017: The Cairo Opera House staff announced three days of mourning on Saturday for the death of Egyptian police personnel who were killed in a shoot-out with militants. The shoot-out took place in an oasis in Giza governorate on Friday, the Opera House said in a statement.

The staff condemned the terrorist attack, stressing that Egypt will be capable of staying strong and united against terrorism.

It also stopped the activities of the Cairo Opera House in different sectors and branches.

The new dates of the cancelled shows will be announced soon, the statement added.
More than 14 police personnel were killed and others were injured in the confrontations that took place with militants in the oasis in the Western Desert. An immediate probe into the incidents was launched by Attorney General Nabil Sadek.

The attack was condemned by Arab and international leaders. They also announced their support for Egypt against the terrorism.
